Solar electricity. Here in Ontario the solar energy market has exploded.
Since 2009 the Ontario Power Authority has been running the MicroFit program. Under the MicroFit program homeowners and business owners are able to install a solar array on the roof of their property and receive monetary compensation from the government for every kiloWatt hour that the system produces.
Photovoltaic solar electricity is created when sunlight is absorbed into a solar module. Sunlight is made up of photons, or particles of solar energy. Photons contain various amounts of energy, corresponding to the different wavelengths of the solar spectrum. When photons strike a PV cell, they may be reflected or absorbed, or they may pass right through. Only the absorbed photons generate electricity. When this happens, the energy of the photon is transferred to an electron in an atom of the PV cell.
Not all solar energy that the sun gives off is absorbed into the earth. Some sunlight is reflected off the atmosphere and goes back into space. The earth absorbs the rest of the energy. The amount of energy that the earth absorbs in an hour is enough energy to meet the entire planets electrical needs for a year.
PV solar electricity is clean and renewable.
Our sun is considered a middle-aged star and has shined for billions of years and will continue to shine billions of years to come. Solar modules are quiet and lie flush with your roof. Solar energy is not invasive.
The manufacturing process for creating solar modules creates 90% less pollution than the refining process of fossil fuel generated electricity.
Solar energy is an amazing thing and when it comes to helping the planet solar electricity is a clear choice.
